Emirates SkyCargo is moving toward next-generation logistics solutions through a new partnership with LODD Autonomous. The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed at the 2025 Dubai Airshow, sets the stage for exploring the use of cargo drones across Emirates’ global operations.
The two companies will collaborate on feasibility studies, regulatory consultations, and practical demonstrations to assess how advanced drone technology could enhance air cargo delivery. This initiative follows the successful test flight of LODD’s Hili aircraft, an autonomous hybrid heavy-lift drone developed in Abu Dhabi.
The Hili drone is capable of fully autonomous flights, carrying payloads up to 250 kilograms over a range of roughly 700 kilometres. Its design makes it a promising option for regional cargo transport, offering both efficiency and flexibility to Emirates’ extensive logistics network.
Emirates SkyCargo will stay involved in LODD’s experimental program through 2027, providing operational input to support the aircraft’s ongoing development. The airline is also evaluating how drones could improve its logistics efficiency, particularly across its dual-airport hubs in Dubai. While the Hili drone’s role in Emirates’ new Courier Express service has not been confirmed, the move reflects a wider trend of using drones for regional and last-mile delivery.
