Beware of Fraudulent Emails: FIATA Issues a Warning

FIATA, the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations, has issued a warning about fraudulent emails sent in its name to deceive recipients into revealing personal or financial information. These phishing attempts often use alarming language and mention false registrations or events to create urgency. Some messages include fake payment requests, deceptive login links, or seemingly authentic personal details to appear legitimate.

To help organisations stay protected, FIATA recommends the S.A.F.E. method: Stop before responding to unexpected messages or clicking any links; Assess the sender’s identity and the content of the request; Flag any email that seems suspicious, especially those requesting personal or financial data; and Escalate the issue to your IT team or supervisor immediately. Always verify your membership or renewal status directly through the official FIATA Member Area.

If you believe you may have clicked on a suspicious link, monitor your bank or credit card accounts and report any unusual activity to your financial institution. Suspicious emails should be reported to legal@fiata.org, including the full email header and any attachments. For added security, FIATA advises enabling two-step authentication, bookmarking www.fiata.org to avoid lookalike sites, and being cautious with emails that create pressure to act quickly.
